You can make a difference…One animal at a time!

The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is always looking for caring volunteers to help make our facility a safe and loving place for homeless animals. Volunteers are crucial to our success and they make a big impact when it comes to improving the lives of the animals we care for as well as support our staff in their efforts. If you have the extra time and would like to make a difference in the lives of shelter animals, please consider becoming a Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society volunteer. Click on the volunteer application that is right for you and begin making a difference one begin making a difference….. one animal at time. All volunteers are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation. Once your completed application is received by our staff, you will be notified of the orientation date and time.

Adult Volunteer Program (18 years of age and above)

The GMHS offers flexible opportunities designed to fit into anyone’s schedule. Often, you can determine the hours you work and in what capacity.  No matter what your skill set ─ whether you desire hands-on activities with our pets, prefer to provide clerical support, or assist with our events and education programs in the community, there is a place for you.

Youth Volunteer Program   (14 – 17 years of age)

The Youth Volunteer Program is designed to give youth ages 14-17 the opportunity to help the animals at GMHS while learning valuable job and animal handling skills.    We seek youth who are responsible, self-directed, and care deeply for animals.   Youth Volunteers are required to give 4 hours of scheduled service a month and plan to serve for 3 months or longer.   Each shift will consist of animal handling/care and cleaning. 

 

Junior Volunteers  (13 years of age and younger)

Children can be great supporters of the animals and the work we do at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society.  However because of safety issues, all children 13 years of age and younger MUST volunteer alongside a parent or guardian over the age of 18 at all times.

*Parent/Guardians-If your child wants to volunteer at GMHS and is 13 years of age or younger, the above form must be filled out and attached to your Adult Volunteer Application.

If you are a member of a group and would like to do a group volunteer project, please contact our Humane Educator, Amy Steele at amysteele.gmhs@yahoo.com or call 804-693-5520. Each member of the group is required to fill out a Group Service Release form.
