The animals we serve depend on your
generosity and support. We are not operated or
funded by any national humane groups and must
rely on contributions to bring our services to
the community. Each and every person who makes a
contribution makes a difference in saving lives.
Donate to the Shelter’s Operations Fund
Contributions to the shelter’s operating fund
are always needed. This money allows the shelter
to run on a daily basis, feeds our animals, pays
for medical treatments and supports our many
programs for fostering and adoption.
Give A Day Program
A donation of $900 or $75 a month for 12
months will cover the cost of daily operations
not supplied by fee’s and other revenues to run
our facility for one day. Give a day
sponsors will be recognized on the display
screen in our shelter lobby. Sponsors may also
request a specific date as well as recognize or
remember a loved one or a special day. Please
specify date and name of person (or animal) if
applicable.
Donate to the Helen’s Gift fund
 Helen’s Gift is a fund established by her
family in memory and honor of Mrs. Helen
Hutcheson, resident of Ware Neck and Richmond,
Virginia whose profound love of animals lead her
to rescue and care for a variety of happy
four-legged friends throughout her lifetime. The
purpose of the fund is to provide supporting
resources for the pets of individuals who have
passed away or become incapacitated and can no
longer care for a beloved animal. Animals from
these backgrounds are often surrendered to the
GMHS, where we strive to provide them with the
care they need and with opportunities to be
adopted by a new family.

Donate Toys, Supplies and Services
The many homeless pets who currently call
our shelter “home” benefit from all donations of
animal care products and services to the
shelter. Call our Shelter Manager at (804)
693-5520 or check our current wish list to learn
what items are most needed now.
