Spay and Neuter
|
Why spay Fluffy or neuter Rover
- One
dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just
six years; one cat and her offspring can produce 420,000
cats in the same time. Dogs can have two litters a
year, cats can have three. Therefore, it there are
fewer litters, there are fewer homeless dogs and cats
and fewer euthanized animals.
- Dogs
and cats are less likely to jump fences and roam, follow
their mating instincts and get into fights. This
reduces injuries, infections, and expensive vet bills.
- Dogs
are less anxious and less likely to damage furntiture,
rugs and other property. This makes it easier to train
them to be well behaved pets.
- They
are less likely to be aggressive and bite. This reduces
potential lawsutis. Apporximatley 92% of dog bites are
by unalthered dogs.
- Both dogs and cats have fewer health problems like
cancers. This allows them to live longer.
- We pay less in taxes - for
every $1.00 spent on spay/neuter $7.00 is saved in
animal control.

Part of your agreement when adopting a shelter pet is
that you will have an unaltered animal neutered or
spayed. This is a very serious step in a long-term
commitment to your pet.
It is also required by Virginia
law. |

IS IT TRUE OR FALSE?
My dog should have a litter before she’s fixed
False-It does not improve the health of any pet to
have a litter.
I want my kids to see the “miracle of birth”
False-It’s no miracle if you don’t already have a
home for every kitten or puppy.
It’s just plain irresponsible.
It’s hard on animals to have them fixed
False-It’s a simple procedure your vet can do and it
keeps animals healthier.
It will make a wimp out of Rover if he’s fixed
False-He’ll be just as “manly” and playful, but will
listen better, roam less, and be a better behaved family
pet.
He’ll get fat and lazy
False-Too much food and lack of exercise are the
reasons for overweight pets!
Do the right thing, SPAY AND NEUTER!
