Humane Education

Kindness Compassion Respect

“Children trained to extend justice, kindness, and mercy to animals become more just, kind and considerate in their relations with each other. Character training along these lines will result in men and women of broader sympathies, more humane, more lawabiding – in every respect more valuable citizens.”

     - From the 1933 National PTA Congress

Humane Education Outreach Programs

The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society believes that the building of a more kind, just and loving community for pets and people begins with instilling the values of kindness and compassion in the children of our community.  Through our humane education programs and by example we strive to teach responsible pet ownership and compassion for all animals including the unwanted, the abandoned, and the neglected.  We offer a variety of interactive educational programs in school classrooms to students in grades PreK-12, and in after school enrichment clubs, scout troops, youth groups and other community organizations.  Our programs are designed to develop the understanding that animals are living feeling beings to be treated with respect and compassion.  Additionally, lessons used in classroom presentations correlate with the standards of learning to ensure appropriate educational experience for all students.
