Our Mission Statement
Guided by the principles that every life
has value and is worthy of respect and protection, and that
animals contribute positively to the health, happiness, and
quality of human life, the GMHS mission is to serve both animals
and people by strengthening the human-animal bond as we build a
more humane community.
Our Vision
The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society looks
toward a day when all domestic and companion animals are ensured
a responsible caring environment for their lifetime, and when
all animals are respected and protected.
Our Role in The Community
Started in 1912 to serve
Gloucester and Mathews
counties, the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is a non-profit
organization. Only a small percentage of operating funds come
from the counties of
Gloucester, Mathews, and
Middlesex. The rest comes from fundraising efforts by
volunteers, grants, and other sources.
